    Olivia is committed to the donation processes that allow SCARF to continue its mission of enabling survivors to receive counsel and access valuable resources. Her attention to detail, management, and reliability ensures that every donation is handled with care, thus fostering trust and long standing relationships. She is deeply passionate about advocating for and empowering survivors, working to help them reclaim their lives and build a path toward healing and independence.

  • ALEX KISER

    Alex (he/him) has lived in Brazil for over a decade, immersing himself in its culture and communities while developing his skills as an educator and leader. He is now channeling that experience into SCARF’s philanthropic initiatives where he assists with growth strategy, creative direction, and community engagement. Helping survivors of sex trafficking matters deeply to him because he believes every person deserves safety, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives and families.

  • ASHLEY MCGROARTY

    Ashley is an asset to the SCARF board as she has many years of sales and customer relations experience, which she directly carries over into donor relations and community awareness. Her critical eye brings realization to complex issues and offers opportunity for trauma-informed solutions. She has a longstanding interest in the well being of children, which she fosters through her work with SCARF.

  • BRITTANY MCGROARTY

    Brittany plays a key role in growth strategy and community engagement. She has a creative outlook, enjoys building authentic relationships, and leverages her networking expertise to fight sex trafficking. If she is not organizing community functions, then you will often find her attending events where she is not only able to further educate herself, but also raise awareness for SCARF’s mission and advocate change.

  • CHRISTIE POWELL

    Having a background in law enforcement, Christie offers valuable expertise and a network that she can directly implement into SCARF’s mission. She brings a strategic mindset, confidence, and a strong voice to project advocacy and can often be found streamlining efficacy during community awareness engagements. Christie’s natural leadership, desire for survivor empowerment, and dedication to children is evident in each role that she steps in.

  • JENNIFER VANDERFLEET

    Having traveled extensively since her childhood in Saudi Arabia, Jennifer (she/her) has a deep seated passion for hands-on experience, cultural awareness, and community voice. Her research, forward thinking, and communication play a vital role in the organization and efficacy of SCARF’s creative direction, development, and relationship management. She currently lives and works remotely in Ireland where she is committed to using her experience to amplify SCARF’s impact and create positive change.

  • Joel Shapiro | TLC

    Joel Shapiro (he/him), J.D.: Co-Founder & Executive Director of Trafficking Law Center is an attorney and policy advisor.  He has served as Chief Counsel to U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, Policy Counsel to Multnomah County Commissioner Diane McKeel, and as a Deputy District Attorney.  As lobbyist for the “Kids Are Not For Sale" coalition, Joel has advocated on behalf of sex trafficking victims and survivors.  He also represents trafficking victims and survivors in litigation. 

    The mission of the Trafficking Law Center is to provide free legal assistance and resource connection to human trafficking victims and survivors. Through direct services, advocacy, and education we work to eliminate systemic and legal barriers so that sex and labor trafficking survivors can access care, housing, employment, and personal and familial stability.

  • Marianna Kosharovsky | ALIGHT

    Marianna Kosharovsky, J.D. is the Founder and Executive Director of ALIGHT (Alliance to Lead Impact in Global Human Trafficking), a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower human trafficking survivors at scale on their journey to true freedom. Ms. Kosharovsky's expertise is rooted in over 15 years of experience in human trafficking, law and cross-sector collaboration in the U.S. and Eastern Europe/Russia. As an attorney, Ms. Kosharovsky represented survivors of sex and labor exploitation at the domestic violence agency Sanctuary for Families, as well as corporate clients at the international law firm Milbank in New York. In Eastern Europe/Russia, she worked on human trafficking and human rights development with PILnet: Global Network for Public Interest Law, and was a Visiting Professor at the Pericles Center for International Legal Education LLM Program. She is a contributing author of the American Bar Association book Lawyers as Changemakers (2016) and serves on Freedom Collective's Global Advisory Community. Ms. Kosharovsky holds a law degree from N.Y.U. Law School.

    ALIGHT is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Solve-award-winning and Guidestar/Candid-accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects children, women and men who have suffered human trafficking to free legal help at a critical point in their recovery. To help survivors finally escape the exploitation cycle, ALIGHT matches them to the right attorney at the right time enabling them to overcome legal problems that are insurmountable alone.

  • Scott Bass | Private Wealth Management

    Before founding The Hunt-Bass Group in 1997 with Roger Hunt, Scott spent five years managing the fixed-income trading desk of another Southeast-based investment firm. In 2002 he and Roger brought their team to Merrill. Today Scott manages key client relationships, working closely with ultra-affluent individuals and families to help them manage both the complexities and opportunities of significant wealth. His areas of focus include strategic asset allocation, alternative investments, equity manager search and selection, family legacy planning and managing the team's fixed-income portfolios. He enjoys building long-term relationships with clients and helping simplify their financial lives.

  • Sarah Byrne | Anti-Trafficking Advocacy

    Sarah Byrne is a partner with Moore & Van Allen PLLC in Charlotte, N.C. where she leads the firm’s Human Trafficking Pro Bono Project, representing survivors of sex trafficking, forced labor and child sex abuse, and assisting organizations with human trafficking prevention and compliance programs.  At the national level, Sarah is a frequent conference speaker and advocate for legislative change in support of trafficking victims.  She is a founding member of the National Survivor Law Collective, a national network of trauma-informed lawyers providing legal aid to survivors.  With a unique focus on the intersection of human trafficking and the financial sector, she works with both survivors and banks on the Survivor Inclusion Initiative, a United Nations-originated program that increases survivor access to financial services.  Sarah’s direct representation of survivors as crime victims informs her institutional trainings and advice on human rights.

  • David L. Baker | Legacy & Philanthropic Management

    With over 30 years of experience, Mr. David Baker is the trusted investment fiduciary for individuals, families and endowments. Originally starting his career as a Registered Representative at George K. Baum & Company, he accepted the position of Senior Vice-President Investment Officer for First Union Securities in 2000. Following a merger with Wachovia, Mr. Baker was promoted to Senior Vice-President for Wachovia Securities. After experiencing the investment industry first-hand, Mr. Baker set out to create a true fiduciary investment firm where clients can achieve their own personal legacy. The National Runaway Switchboard serves as the federally-designated national communication system for homeless and runaway youth.  NRS, with the support of more than 150 volunteers, handles an average of 100,000 calls annually – more than 3 million calls since the organization’s inception.  Through hotline and online services, NRS provides crisis intervention, referrals to local resources, and education and prevention services to youth, families and community members throughout the country 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
